Christian Benning Percussion

As a “phenomenon“ (Süddeutsche Zeitung), as a “rhythmic genius“ (Die ZEIT), the performances of Christian Benning are commended in many ways. The career of the versatile multi percussionist is in its early stages though.

Following successful performances as member of Simone Rubino's Esegesi Percussion Quartet at renowned festivals Christian Benning has been invited to Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Philharmonie - Prinzregententheater – Herkulessaal München, Bremen Glocke, Bonn Beethoven-Haus, Graz Musikverein, Paris Théâtre de la Ville, Milano Dome, Venice San Marco, Barcelona Sagrada Família, Istanbul Borusan Music House, Bucarest Enesu Venue, at Jerusalem, Kairo, Osaka, Baltimore Griswold Hall as well as at the UN in New York. He appeared in festivals such as Les Musicales d ́Orient in France, The Abbey San Diego, Opera Port Louis-Mauritius, Höri Musiktage, Young Artists Bayreuth among others.

In addition to international competition successes and concert tours through Asia, Africa, Europe and North America, the versatile percussionist regularly performs with renowned ensembles and instrumentalists. Long-term chamber music projects connect him with Simone Rubino, Cameron Carpenter, Arcis Saxophone Quartet and piano duo Neeb. Concerts with these ensembles have already taken him to the Rheingau Music Festival, Heidelberger Frühling, La Folle Journée Nantes and Teatro Romano di Verona.

He will perform as a soloist and with the Christian Benning Percussion Group in Wolfsburg, Ansbach, Nürtingen, Allensbach, Essingen, Höxter and Bad Driburg among others.

Christian Benning has worked with Deutschlandfunk, Bayerischer Rundfunk and Südwestrundfunk.

Benning was chosen as a junior student at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich at the age of 13. In addition to his studies with Peter Sadlo, Arnold Riedhammer, Adel Shalaby and Alexej Gerassimez he completed a semester abroad at the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in Robert van Sice's percussion class and attended workshops at the Yale School of Music.

In his quest for innovation, Christian Benning is currently developing CreativeBeats, a revolutionary hybrid percussion instrument. A notation system developed by Benning forms the basis of his doctoral studies, which he has been completing at London's Brunel University since October 2022.

Christian Benning is supported by Meinl Cymbals, Meinl Percussion, Meinl Stick&Brush, SchlagZu, AlternativeMode and vanLaack and has been a Yamaha Artist since 2023.
