With their virtuosity, brilliant musicality and outstanding stage presence, the eleven top soloists of German Brass have made a decisive impact on brass culture and has written brass history. In 2024, the musicians of leading German symphony orchestras celebrated their 50th anniversary with a major anniversary tour and a Best-of album. Unimpressed by personal changes and always remaining true to its characteristic sound, German Brass has continuously increased the exceptional quality of its formation over the years.
In addition to numerous concert appearances in Germany, German Brass has toured Europe, China, South Korea and Japan with extraordinary success.
With their unique interplay, the virtuosos take audiences into fascinating worlds of sound that represent the musical excellence of the ensemble. German Brass switches between different musical styles with ease and always surprises with its own sophisticated arrangements by trumpeter Matthias Höfs and trombonist Alexander Erbrich-Crawford, which have long been among the hits of the brass repertoire.
The extensive discography of German Brass includes award-winning albums such as Brass Hommage, Brass Heralds (Bach, Handel, Telemann), Rhapsody (Gershwin, Bernstein), , Celebrating Wagner, 40 Years - The Best of German Brass, Fantastic Moments, Brass Christmas, Christmas around the World, Bach on Brass for Berlin Classics and many more. Sony Classical recently released the albums It's Christmas Time and Trip to America. Berlin Classics released the album Overtures in 2024. In 2016, German Brass conquered the classical charts with its album Bach on Brass and won the most important German music award ECHO Klassik.
Founded in 1974 as Deutsches Blechbläserquintett, the ensemble extended their formation into eleven musicians in 1984. German Brass is playing chamber music at the highest level and at the same time, “the eleven brass players sound like a full orchestra - colorful, diverse and highly convincing.”
