Edin Karamazov I Classical Guitar & Lute

Edin Karamazov's thrilling virtuoso performances on the lute and guitar have garnered rave reviews and unprecedented critical acclaim in Europe and America. As a soloist he has performed and recorded with leading international early music ensembles and artists including the Hilliard Ensemble, Hesperion XX, Andreas Scholl as well as Sting.

A consummate interpreter and master technician on numerous early and contemporary stringed instruments and outstanding recital artist Edin Karamazov has appeared at Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Wigmore Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Berlin Konzerthaus, Konzerthaus Vienna, Herkulessaal Munich as well as at festivals such as Bachfest Leipzig, Schleswig-Holstein, Rheingau, Mosel, Lower Saxony, Istanbul Bach, Espinho, Bach Swidnica among others.

Edin Karamazov plays several plucked instruments of various cultures and epoches and remains committed to exploring the use of lutes in modern music and contemporary improvisational contexts. In addition to his solo career he enjoys collaborating with singers and instrumentalists as Andreas Scholl, Nuria Rial and Dorothee Oberlinger in different styles and backgrounds.

Upcoming invitations include solo recitals in Latvia and Lithuania, duo performances with Andreas Scholl in Prague, Dorothee Oberlinger in Bolzano, Frankfurt und Lübeck, Pavel Steidl in Lithuania among others.

His extensive discography includes the CDs Come heavy sleep with works by Britten and Bach (alpha records), XXI (Contemporary Music for Solo Lute) (Lumaudis), The Lute is a Song (including arias with Andreas Scholl. Aparte has released the album Canciones with Andreas Scholl encompassing music by J.S. Bach and Leo Brouwer as well as an album for two guitars with Mozart, Haydn and Schubert together with Pavel Steidl. Sony Classical/deutsche harmonia mundi published the highly acclaimed album Bach: Dialogues with  Dorothee Oberlinger. Coviello Classics has released A Spanish journey with Nuria Rial in 2020, Croatia Records the album Lacrimae for voice, guitar and lute with Bozo Vreco.

Protegé of Sergiu Celibidache, Edin Karamazov began his musical career with the classical guitar and was awarded First Prizes at four guitar competitions. He continued his studies of the Baroque Lute with Hopkinson Smith at the Scola Cantorum Basiliensis.

Dorothee Oberlinger | recorder

Dorothee Oberlinger is seen as one of the best recorder players worldwide. Born in Aachen in 1969, she studied recorder, school music and German in Cologne, Amsterdam and Milan. She made her international debut in 1997 as winner of the international competition SRP / Moeck U.K. at Wigmore Hall London.

Dorothee Oberlinger is a regular guest at major festivals and concert series around the world and performs as a soloist with renowned ensembles and orchestras, in particular with the "Ensemble 1700" which she founded in 2002. She collaborates with leading interpreters of early music such as Dmitry Sinkovsky, Andreas Scholl and Edin Karamazov, and also likes to experiment with new music and occasionally also contributes to pop music.

In 2020 Dorothee Oberlinger was awarded the Georg-Philipp-Telemann-Prize of the city of Magdeburg.

The international press has repeatedly rated Dorothee Oberlinger's versatility with the highest awards of her numerous recordings with deutsche harmonia mundi / Sony Classical, including the ECHO Klassik (2008, 2013, 2015) and the French music prize Diapason d'Or (2012) .2020 she was named Instrumentalist of the Year at Opus Klassik for her album Night Music.

Since 2019 Dorothee Oberlinger is Artistic Director of the Potsdam Music Festival and has been heading the Arolser Barockfestspiele since 2009.

In addition, Dorothee Oberlinger has been Professor at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg since 2004.

Nuria Rial | soprano

Frequently praised for her vocal purity and luminosity, her natural and emotive singing and the elegance of her phrasing, Nuria Rial has, for the last years, been one of the most prized voices on the baroque and classical scene. 

She has appeared at major leading music festivals and opera houses in Europe and collaborates with such conductors as Giovanni Antonini, Laurence Cummings, Teodor Currentzis, Ivan Fischer,Paul Goodwin, Thomas Hengelbrock, René Jacobs, Marc Minkowski, Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Paul Goodwin and Trevor Pinnock. Nuria Rial is frequently asked to perform with notable ensembles such as Concerto Köln, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, The English Concert, Kammerorchester Basel, Collegium 1704, Il Giardino Armonico, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, Elbipolis Barockorchester, Le Cetra Basel, L’Arpeggiata, Il Pomo d'Oro, Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, orchester le phénix, Café Zimmermann, Festival Lucerne Strings and Budapest Festival Orchestra.

Nuria Rial´s wide artistic interests also include music from the 20th and 21st centuries, fusions of styles such as jazz or flamenco, Lied and opera, having worked with stage directors such as Peter Sellars in theatres as La Monnaie, Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Théâtre des Champs Elysées, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Teatro Carlo Felice de Genova and Teatro Real de Madrid, among others.  She has taken roles in operas as widely diverse as Eurydice in L´Orfeo by Monteverdi, Pamina in Mozart´s Magic Flute, and also the role of Nuria in Ainadamar by Osvaldo Golijov.

Her vast discography includes more than thirty albums with Sony Classical which were awarded many prizes such as Orphee d’Or, Echo Klassik Prize 2009 and 2012, and Edison Klassiek. Coviello Classics has released the album Luigi Boccherini Stabat Mater with orchester le phénix in 2018 and in 2020 Spanish songs with guitarist Edin Karamazov.

Nuria Rial studied voice and piano in her native Catalonia and was a member of Kurt Widmer’s class at the Basel Academy of Music.

In 2003, Nuria Rial was awarded the “Preis der Helvetia Patria Jeunesse Stiftung” by the Pro Europa – for her exceptional achievements as a singer.
